Oracle Hardware Design

Planning the server environment

The minimum hardware requirements for the Oracle server environment are determined by three factors:
  • Type of application (OLTP, DSS, Data Warehouse)
  •  Expected maximum transactions per second
  •  Number of users

Note: The size of the database should NOT be one of the factors used to select a hardware/OS configuration. The disk I/O subsystem determines database size. This will be discussed further in the next chapter, along with other database issues.
